Our SOAPBOX series included monthly open-mics, curated cabaret ‘Deluxe’ lineup shows and special festival edition ‘Spectacular’. Thanks to the Wellington City Council funding, we were able to create a safe, professional and fun platform for all women and non-binary performing artists.

SOAPBOX in Numbers
history of soapbox
We started SOAPBOX open-mic in 2022 because at that time, there was no open-mic specifically catered for all women and non-binary artists of all performing arts disciplines in Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand. We wanted it to be a warm and supportive space where artists can share their work and connect with others. It quickly became a safe, fun and beautiful space that are inclusive and important for the community.
With the support from the Wellington City Council, we were able to host SOAPBOX open-mic, and eventually the curated cabaret SOAPBOX ‘Deluxe’ and the festival edition, SOAPBOX ‘Spectacular’.
